Everyone wants to make the game that will take the iPhone by storm like Angry Birds. While repeating the success of the flightless birds is nigh-on impossible, The Drop Out is an enjoyable physics-based catapult-stuff-at-other-stuff game that will waste many happy hours of your life.

In this game, your objective is to fire the Boos (small round creatures) at the furries (yellow squares/rectangles) in a bid to knock them off the platform on which they rest; according to the storyline, this is how you ‘save’ them, but you can just as easily think of it as killing them if it makes you happier.

The gameplay entails simply winding back the catapult and firing the little fellas. The game doesn’t go stale quickly however, thanks to the different pretty environments you unlock by progressing through the game. There are four ‘episodes’ in the game – Space, Ice, Heaven, and The Factory – each of which contains tons of levels.

The further you progress, the tougher your obstacles become, as you’ll have to prevent your beloved boos from hitting the evil red furries, or find means of shifting the heavy metallic furries. Thankfully, your arsenal improves correspondingly, as you unlock the special Bomb and Drill boos later in the game.

The Drop Out features full Game Center support, offering plenty of achievements for all the glory whores out there, as well as online rankings. It may be too late to be ‘the next big thing’ on the App Store, but this game is a tough and aesthetically-pleasing variation on the Angry Birds formula that should keep you hooked for a good little while.
