User Rating:I had a professor in college who returned a paper to me with only a few words of comment at the top. They read- “Get a Thesaurus and use it!”
I guess he had a problem with my using the same word thirty times in the same five page paper.
Having a Thesaurus at your fingertips can be a huge plus and what better way to keep one around than to have it on your iPhone or iPod Touch?
That’s the idea behind this Thesaurus app.
At $.99 Thesaurus can be incredibly useful. It quickly searches for words and returns a large number of possible synonyms.
The app’s coloring is on the dark side and the font size is small. The result of this combination is a limited degree of readability. This can be a huge problem in an app that is all about… reading.
A second, and for me, fatal flaw with this app, is that it isn’t actually an app. Rather, this is a web-portal/optimized web-app. That means one important thing- no data connection, no Thesaurus.
Quick Take
Value: Low to Medium
Would I Buy Again: Probably not
Learning Curve: Low
Who is it for: People who, like me, need to keep a Thesaurus around
What I like: Works quickly and offers good variety of alternative word choices
What I Don’t: Dark color and small font makes it hard to read. Requires a WiFi connection.
Final Statement: If you have great eyesight and a data connection, Thesaurus is a fantastic app. If either is missing.. pass. Personally, I am, and remain, a fan of WordBook. At $8 it costs far more but works well, is east to use and does not require a data connection.
