There is a veritable plethora of tip calculators available in the App Store. The only way to distinguish them apart is by the graphics they use, and even that gets redundant if you look at enough of them.
Tip Calculator – Revolution works very simply. First the user inputs their food tax rate as well as the bill total in the top left corner using the keypad on the right (the program automatically back-calculates the pre-tax cost). The user can then randomly spin some of the saucers on the virtual table for this app to determine the percentage tip he, she or their party want to leave as well as the number of people in the party.
The app dynamically calculates the total tip, total bill, individual tip and individual total. Simply touching these numbers rounds them for those who aren’t interested in pennies. If you tap the tag that says "Adjustments", you can see a cute pie chart of the split that looks as if it were drawn on a napkin.
The app also allows you to save the bill for later, in the event you meet again and have to argue over who paid the last time. There is also a menu available on a very small icon on the top left from which you can set the currency, sound and other various settings.
The app is cute and comes with a few nice bells and whistles. It would be nice if the user could alter percentages of payment between the party (one pays 30%, two pay 25%, etc.). However, the app accomplishes what it says it does and does it with style. If you eat out a lot and need a good tipping program for the introductory price of $.99, you could do a lot worse.
