User Rating:trendn is an excellent idea. There are a myriad of apps out there that are newsreaders or RSS feeds. However, this one doesn’t just give you the news, but instead it gives you the popular news.
This is the news that everyone else is reading. This is useful to those who feel as if they’re never in the know.
The interface is very simple and intuitive as a newsfeed. Popular topics are divided into categories (sports, entertainment, etc.) but there is an "All Topics" category that the app defaults to. Obviously, the app is mostly links to news articles, but the articles can be opened in Safari (as opposed to the built-in browser) or shared via services such as Facebook and Twitter. The article link can also be copied to the clipboard for use in other apps.
After speaking with the creators, I have learned that the formula behind determining whether a site is "trending" involves statistics from sources such as Google, Facebook and Digg, among others.
If I had one minor complaint is that it would be nice to show some statistics with each site to determine why exactly the site is "trending".
Still, the concept is sound and the app itself is simple to use. If you’re a news junkie and like to get random news feeds from around the world, then this app should be on your wish list.
Quick Take
Value:Medium to High.
Would I Buy Again:Quite possibly.
Learning Curve:Low.
Who Is It For:News junkies and the insecure.
