User Rating:I try not to review free apps anymore. The logic being that anybody can download the free app and judge for themselves at no cost. In this case, I’m going to make an exception. Full disclosure: I also work for a blog affiliated with TUAW, so my opinion is not entirely unbiased.
If you own an iPhone (or even an iPod touch), chances are you dig things made by Apple. In which case it’s probably a good idea to have easy access to a news feed regarding the goings-on of the company. The official app for The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) would likely fill that need.
The thing I like most about TUAW above all other Apple blogs (save this one, of course) is their ability to deliver the news with a great deal of snark. Blogging on the Internet isn’t about delivering news. It’s taking already existing news and writing an opinion of it.
The news feeder is terrific and was obviously designed by people who know about the iPhone or iPod touch. The news is categorized into most Apple-related categories imaginable. News items can be bookmarked and saved offline for later. It’s even possible for app to browse the actual web page of any article without leaving the app. Frankly, other newsreaders could learn a thing or two from this one.
In short, particularly for free, this app is a bargain. I recommend its immediate download.
Pros: Good layout and design. Excellent function. Free.
Cons: None that I can see.
