How many times have you wanted to know the lyrics to the song you are listening to?  tuneWIki tries to fill that void and then some.

The main feature of tuneWiki is watching the lyrics to the song you are currently listening to–highlighting the line so you can follow along. (A sing-a-long with your iPhone?)

If you start tuneWiki when there is already a song playing from your "iPod", then tuneWiki starts displaying the lyrics from the song.  If you start tuneWiki without any music playing, then you can browse your music library and find the songs you want to hear.   During my tests I tried tuneWiki with 3 different songs from my “ipod”; the results were mixed:  2 out of 3 of the songs worked fine., one didn’t have any lyrics. Granted, I do tend to listen to some obscure music, so you may have better results than I did. Regardless, when tuneWIki was able to find the lyrics, it lined up and synced the music just fine.

The interface (when listening to songs from your music library) is pretty rudimentary—you can skip forward and back, pause, and shuffle as well. Volume and seek are also available, but the sliders are very small especially for large (clumsy) fingers like mine. Because it’s interfacing with the ipod functions, when you exit tuneWiki (and your playing songs from your media library), the songs continue to play.

Sure, getting lyrics for songs from your iPod is cool—but there’s still more! tuneWiki also supports various internet radio stations. Assuming it can find the lyrics (like the iPod, it worked great for more ‘popular’ songs, and not so hot for stuff off the beaten path), you’ll be able to sing along with the currently playing song.  Most of the time the lyrics synced up fine, but occasionally it was off by 1 line.

Two extra features that it also has is the ability to search YouTube videos (why not just use the YouTube video app that comes with the phone? I still don’t know).  There is also a “Community” button that allows you to see what people are listening to who are located near you, as well as the most popular songs (by country, and state).

All-in-all tuneWiki is a great little app; especially when you want to sing along with a song and don’t know the lyrics. I doubt I would use it every day, but I’m sure it’ll stay on my phone for a while.

Quick Take

Value: High

Would I Buy Again:  Yes!

Learning Curve:  None…we are all used to the iPod and how to operate it by now

Who Is It For: People that like to sing along with a song, or at least read the lyrics

What I Like:  It’s actually very cool technology that makes it work…I’m very impressed with it.  Outside of that, it’s a nice app that works well.

What I Don’t: Why does it have that youtube search? It doesn’t display the lyrics to the video;  I’d be happier just using the built in app for that feature.

Final Statement: tuneWiki is a solid app that adds some nice functionality to your music.  And it’s free too!
