What can one say about yet another Hangman game in the App Store? Well, this one is free.
It has three themes that one can choose the hangman from (Flower, Doodle and Christmas, with probably more on the way). It has excellent animation and with every correct word a new scene is drawn in for variety.
The funniest part of the doodle theme is how the hangman curses out the player when he or she loses the game right before the level is pulled and he (it) is killed via hanging.
In the flower power section, the flower keeps losing pieces until even the stem falls off.
In the Christmas section, pieces of a snowman keep falling off.
Along with themes, the app also gives selections on which sets of vocabulary to use. Some are random but some sets of words also stick to certain themes such as adjectives, elements, foods, etc.
Some ideas for improvement could be more options for people to hang, or even the ability to put a photograph on the hangman’s face so you have extra motivation to save him or her (or let him or her die, depending on your feelings). It also wouldn’t hurt to include a dictionary so people could learn the definitions of the words they’re trying to spell.
Ultimate Hangman is not overwhelming but it’s a cute, classic game and the price certainly makes the download worth it. At the very least, it can keep older children busy on long car trips and they might learn spelling and grammar to boot.
