User Rating:Have you ever been in one of those situations where you’re in town and wondering what to do, so you ask your friend "what do you want to do?" and he/she responds with the same question? That is why apps like UrbanDaddy exist. It’s based on the website of the same name, but it has a nice nitch.
It’s a bit like Urbanspoon, the app which selects a restaurant for you, but Urbandaddy does more. It asks the critical questions "What do you want?" and "Who are you with?" Once those questions are answered, you tap a button and the app selects possible things for you to do. You can even tap the "surprise me" button for a randomly selected activity.
The app gives a choice of six cities in which to find an activity. Obviously, a data or WiFi connection is necessary to use the app.
I have one or two problems with the app. First off, all possible choices seem mainstream (dinner, dancing, etc.) and I tend to prefer things more offbeat. Secondly, there is nowhere in the app that allows you to control the amount of money you want to spend. It would also be nice to limit yourself to an area of a city. If you’re in The Village in NYC, you don’t want to go to 125th St. to eat.
Not to say that this is a bad app, but the input parameters are somewhat limited. However, what it does, it does well. If you’re on a first date and have no idea where to go, this would be a good app to have.
Quick Take
Value:Medium-High.
Would I Buy Again:Probably.
Learning Curve:Low.
Who Is It For:Those looking for things to do in a city.
What I Like:Easy interface. Fun to "gamble" with a place to go.
What I Don't Like:Limited input options.
Final Statement:With some refinements, this could be a really good app.
