User Rating:I don’t know about you, but I love food! I also enjoy trying local favorites that provide a unique dinning experience.
When traveling, it can be hard to find that hidden gem of a restaurant among the streets of franchises and fast food. Urban Spoon solves this problem through their website which aims to help you when locating that hard to find eatery, and their iPhone app makes that process even easier.
The application starts with finding your location. Urban Spoon not only gives you cities to choose from but also locales within cities. Say, for example, you where in San Francisco; it would give you areas like "mission district" or "chinatown."
The next screen provides a slot machine interface for those "surprise me" kind of people. You can lock down any of the parameters (location, food type, and price) then hit the button and see what you get. The slot interface isn’t the only way to find your next favorite burger shack. Browse and search options are available, but who doesn’t like a bit of serendipity once in a while.
Once a restaurant catches your eye, you can look to see how popular it is, read any reviews, and get a phone number and map to the restaurant. The best part about urban spoon is that you can participate by voting for or against the restaurant and even writing your own reviews. If that community spirit really strikes you, you can also upload a photo on the menu.
Urban Spoon also features a Facebook integration so you can share your latest conquest with all your friends.
Whether it is 2 foot high burgers or beautiful Italian restaurants, Urban Spoon delivers a great free tool for discovering the best place to eat in any town you may find yourself.
