User Rating:Taking advantage of Adult Swim’s 99 cent sale as a result of their latest release, Floater Pro, I had the chance to sample other games like Vending Machine Champ for a scant buck. I have to say that it is one of the more disappointing games of the selection.
While it is not a bad game, it simply cannot compare to greats like Amateur Surgeon and Five Minutes to Kill (Yourself). It does dabble in the macabre, but in the end the game is fairly simplistic.
The objective is simple: get the candy (or chips or whatever) out of the vending machine without hurting yourself. If you hurt yourself (one popular graphic involves a hand getting severed), you lose. Once the user initially lifts the machine, he has to hit all the various bubbles with points that appear on it in order to loosen the chips/candy/thingy.
The graphics of the game are okay and the motion seems kind of choppy. The intro to each "battle" against the vending machine also feels like it takes too long as the player is raised via some sort of elevator to the "stadium".
Even with the dollar sale, this game is not one I would keep around on my iPhone. Unless you happen to be an Adult Swim game completist, I would use the money instead for either Amateur Surgeon, Five Minutes or Floater Pro.
Quick Take
Value:Low to Medium.
Would I Buy Again:Probably not.
Learning Curve:Low.
Who Is It For:Adult Swim completists or Vending Machine Haters.
What I Like:Good concept.
What I Don't Like:Graphics and motion are simple. Too long of an intro.
Final Statement:I'll find a healthy snack elsewhere, thank you.
