VideoHunters is an app that can easily replace the stock YouTube app on your iPad.
You may be wondering why you would purchase this app with the free, already-installed YouTube app on your iPad. Well, don’t think of this app as a simple app serving the same purpose as the YouTube app. It’s much more than your basic YouTube app.
While VideoHunters does mimic most features of your current app including AirPlay, this app has some really great and unique features of its own. It has a unique way of displaying videos in rows, which greatly organize many categories of videos into a single, left-to-right scrollable category. Videos can be organized by Top Rated, Featured, and Most Viewed by default, which you are probably used to seeing. If you login to your account, you can also have your uploads and your favorites displayed in an organized row too.
After searching the video giant in VideoHunters, your search results will be displayed and saved as a row. These rows are easily removable if you do not want to keep a search around forever. So are the default ones if you prefer not to see what YouTube suggests.
If you haven’t noticed, this app is all about customization. Organization too. Besides rows, it also offers what it calls themes, which are not the graphical themes that you have come to know, but more of a video topic. These themes range from Batman to Charlie Sheen, music lessons to 80s cartoons. After selecting a theme, the app will have videos specifically tailored to your current taste.
But this app isn’t better than the stock YouTube app in every aspect. Yes, there is the price which may deter some. I, for one, feel that the app is totally worth the $1 price tag.
Besides price, VideoHunters also felt sluggish with too many rows. After a quick row cleaning though, the app becomes quick again.
Do you really need this app with the free, already-installed alternative (not to mention a great web app)? It depends. Have you used the YouTube app within the past week? Have you ever felt like the YouTube app could be better? Even if you answered no to both of these questions, VideoHunters is still worth a try. You may not know what you’re missing out on.
