User Rating:Voice Changer Plus is one of the cute and fun apps to have if you dig making silly voices. The regular version is free and the souped-up version lets you share your recordings and offers a larger selection of audio distortions costs $2. I leave it to the individual to decide if the non-free greater price is worth it. This review will concentrate on the free version.
The app could not be more simple. With the tap of a button, you record yourself saying a phrase. If using an iPod touch, make sure that a microphone is plugged in (and taken out again before listening to the recording on the speaker). If one is not plugged in, the app will detect the lack of microphone and stop working. You tap the button a second time to stop recording.
Upon completion, the app offers you a range of sound types with which to filter and/or distort your recording. These include options such as mouse, chipmunk, robot and backwards. It’s a good way to have a laugh. Think of it as the iPhone or iPod touch’s built-in Voice Memo with the added capability of sounding like Alvin, Simon or Theodore.
While the price is right, there are certain capabilities that I wish the free version had. It would be nice if the user could save the recording to an external source, either by WiFi or e-mail. For that functionality, one must upgrade to the paid version.
In the end, it’s a cute app to own and is worth the price of download for the practical joke possibilities alone.
Quick Take
Value:High.
Would I Buy Again:"Buy" is relative. I would, however, download it.
Learning Curve:Low.
Who Is It For:Members of the Ministry of Silly Voices.
What I Like:Simple to use. Fun app. It's free!
What I Don't Like:Can't save recordings to an external source in the Free version.
Final Statement:To me, the app sounds great!
