Voypi is an online communication app that lets you phone and text your friends for free. It’s a tough market to muscle in on, with Skype very much dominating affairs, but Voypi is an easy, hassle-free alternative.

Voypi is extremely simple to use, and upon start-up gives you the option of syncing all your iPhone contacts, automatically recognising fellow owners of the app.
Considering the app is free, it’s pleasantly surprising to see that there are no adverts or pop-ups suddenly taking up half the screen, forcing you onto their websites selling protein powder or viagra. All credit to Voypi for maintaining its integrity.

Having tested the call quality, I can say that it’s crispy clean, with little interference and those nasty glitchy sounds you get with other digital communcations apps. Voypi also conveniently runs in the background, so your friends can see when you’re online and call you no matter what you’re doing with your phone.

This is a no-frills phone calling and texting app that does exactly what it’s supposed to do. Functionally, Voypi is more or less identical to Skype, and it’ll do a good job to come close to emulating the chatting giant’s success. But if you feel like deviating from the mainstream, then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t give this a try.
