User Rating:What’s Your IQ? Is a quiz game which figures out, as you probably guessed, your IQ. I’m a sucker for ‘IQ games’; as such, I’ve tried many different ones—from websites, to flash based, to now on the iPhone, and I can honestly say that this iPhone implementation is the worst one I’ve tried.
What’s Your IQ? suffers from several problems, the first one being not enough questions in the test. It’s clear (and I believe even explicitly stated) that What’s Your IQ is purely for entertainment, but still it’d be nice if it tried to take itself somewhat seriously! The thought that you can even come close to an IQ score in just 10 questions is silly.
The second problem is that the variety of questions is pretty limited—all the questions are either straight forward math questions (ratio, straight math, or word problems) or language questions (this is to that, as x is to y sort of questions). I have yet to see any abstract thought or complicated pattern recognition (EX: find the next number in this series).
Lastly, Whats Your IQ suffers from not having enough questions over all—the current version (3.0) has approximately 50 questions in total, which is great improvement from version 1 that had only 10 questions. But even at 50 questions it means that each time you play you’ll see many of the same questions you had before.
On the plus side—it’s fun the first time you play, and since it’s only 10 questions you won’t feel like you’ve wasted too much time playing. And it does make a good conversation starter/party game. But with so much lacking, why not just pick a number between 80 and 160 at random and say that’s your IQ? It’d be almost as entertaining and about as accurate.
Quick Take
Value:Low--This thing is pretty boring.
Would I Buy Again:No--not unless I was really desparate for an ice-breaker
Learning Curve:Low--anybody can do a multiple choice test
Who Is It For:People that are looking for a simple, novelty based IQ test.
What I Like:it's a good idea
What I Don't Like:Not enough questions, and doesn't perform a full range of tests.
Final Statement:If you are desperate for some simple 'brain teasers', then this MIGHT be what you want. But if you want anything serious or challenging, then avoid this one.
