Once again, some other developer nabs one of my ideas. I’ve always hated the Tomagachi craze (or any of those virtual pet games) and feel Your Pet Zombie adequately lampoons such concepts.
To begin, the animation seems very much in the style of South Park. I’m not saying that as a bad thing, simply as what is.
The game is silly and cute. It begins with your zombie crawling out of the grave and standing in a field. Survivors try to walk past him and then you try to get the zombie to eat as many as possible. However, if he eats too many, he gets fat and the humans have to be dragged to him. When you have collected enough brains, you can buy stuff in the virtual gift shop like extra stomach capacity (thankfully the creators don’t do something gauche like charge real-world money for these virtual add-ons).
While the concept is cute, the execution could use a little work. The instruction screens are really annoying. Couldn’t those be optional? The appeal is obviously those who prefer a combination of horror and cute, but some more flexibility may be in order. Why not allow the user to name the zombie? Or give a choice of a boy or girl zombie?
Your Pet Zombie is a nice idea that doesn’t quite go far enough into the realm of Tomagachi to be less like a game and more like a pet. If it does, and remains at the price at $.99, the creators would have a real winner on their hands.
Pros: Cute. Silly.
Cons: Could use more flexibility. Kind of annoying to go through all the instruction screens.
Your Pet Zombie comes equipped with the latest in brain-matriculating features, including:
STRATEGIC TOUCH ACTION: Your Pet Zombie follows a strict diet of brains, brains, and more brains! Wait until the humans try to sneak by your zombie when he's sleeping, then spring your trap and tag them in the order you'd like them to be eaten! Some survivors take longer to eat than others so using strategy, upgrades, and quick reflexes to ensure the highest possible body count is key. Make sure to feed it often or else it will eventually starve and die...again.
COMBOS AND BONUSES:Not missing any survivors will build up your Combo Multiplier and Wave Bonuses, greatly increasing the brains you gather for purchasing upgrades and toys for your Pet Zombie.
FAT ZOMBIE:Once your Pet Zombie is full for the day he will get fat. Since he can no longer move you'll have to drag survivors to your obese pet with your finger to continue feeding him.
UPGRADE YOUR ZOMBIE:Visit the Brain Shop to spend all your hard-earned brains on upgrades, special abilities, interactive toys, and new companions for your Pet Zombie.
SEASONS:Enjoy Your Pet Zombie's beautiful art, spanning an entire virtual year: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Fall. Each season has a new background and unique survivors for your Pet Zombie to eat.
ZOMBIE PUPPY:Purchase the Zombie Dog in the Brain Store to startle survivors and keep them on the screen longer, making it easier for your Pet Zombie to catch them. The dog will also play fetch with the Eye Ball toy...if he's not too busy sleeping.
ZOMBIE GIRLFRIEND:Is your Pet Zombie starting to get lonely? Order a Zombie Girlfriend from the Brain Store to keep him company. She will charm troublesome military survivors and look good doing it...you know, for a dead chick
