Some screenshots and the description gave me the impression that Yumby Smash was something similar to the Angry Birds game. But as it turns out, this addictive game has an entirely different story to tell.

“The demented Colonel Crumpet has constructed a diabolical weapon called Starve, which is sucking all food out of Planet Yumby!
Every second counts as the Yumbies battle their way past Gobbler Hoards, terrifying traps and towering fortresses. Along the way, the Yumbies must find and SMASH pieces of Starve that Crumpet’s minions are manufacturing.”

So, that’s all about what to do. Now, to the thing we really care about, how to do it!

Just tap and swipe on a Yumby in any direction to shoot him there and to be honest, that is pretty much all about the controls. Also occasionally, you’ll need the two-finger tap to emit an energy wave blasting everything around you. You have to crash anything on your way and collect all the piece of the evil machine to complete a level. Just like Bounty levels we’ve seen in NFS games, you need atleast 80% smashes to proceed. So, it’s all about the damage you create but you can’t just go on crashing stuff. Each smash takes up a certain amount of energy from the bottom bar and you need energy orbs to fill them up.

The initial levels are too easy but later on, the levels become so large and complex that you can’t even spot your little heroes in the zoomed-out mode. Levels are filled with different types of boxes, rotating platforms, rocks, springs etc. Hundreds of evil gobbler enemies like snakes, mines, saws and thorns are recruited by the colonel while shields, hammers, bombs and magnets are here to help.

The background music is really cool with the soft whistling tune and animations are cute. Coins can be collected during gameplay and later used to buy goodies while gems purchased from the in-app store can upgrade your yumbies. As you complete missions, you climb levels and more Yumbies are unlocked. Currently only 30 levels are present with a coming soon sign hanging on two more sets. I’m surely looking forward for rest of the levels and can’t wait to take down Starve with my Yumby army.

Only by reaching Starve before it’s completed do our Yumbies stand any chance of, well, not starving…
