While the iphone’s built in phone app more than gets the job done when it comes to voice communication, one thing you can’t get away from is long distance calls. In spite of most cell phone plans offering free long distance within the customer’s nation, international calls are still billed at a rather expensive rate. Here in the U.S. for example, a long distance call to a London landline would cost $1.49 per minute! For those users that make a lot of international calls, this can become a problem quickly. With ChatTime that same call is only $.02 per minute.

SmartRoam has released a solution that works similarly to the way phone cards work, but without the hassle of connection fees, and various other complications. What ChatTime does when you call an international number is the app called a local phone number which then routes the call over the internet to a local number in that country. The process is seamless to the user and the app shows each call in your ChatTime recent call logs. ChatTime also has it’s own favorites menu for all your frequent international calls. If you are in the app you can also make standard calls and ChatTime will simply call the number directly if it is not international.

ChatTime has rates that match or beat Skype in just about every country. They have a rate list within the app that lists their rates along side Skype and your particular carrier. One of the biggest conveniences with ChatTime has to be the In App Purchases for minutes. Minutes can be purchased in $10, $25, and $100 increments. This makes adding minutes easy since it is purchased with your iTunes account. If you make international calls, there really isn’t any reason not to make ChatTime your go to app for calling. Just remember that this only works for calling other numbers. If international callers call you they will need to find a solution like ChatTime. ChatTime is a free app in the app store and it comes with a $1.00 credit to give it a try.
