MotoHeroz combines the childhood loves of every boy: Sonic the Hedgehog, and gas guzzling monster trucks.

MotoHeroz involves players taking control of a monster truck, as per the title suggests, and navigating it through a myriad of obstacles while collecting bonuses Sonic style. As a time-trial based game, the objective of the game is to of course complete the obstacle course in the shortest time possible. However, the little additions here and there by Ubisoft add to the excitement and enjoyment of the game.

For starters, while MotoHeroz is a single-player game, players are able to compete against “ghost players” where two appear in each stage. One car represents the qualifying time for that level, whereas the second car represents the closest player on the leader boards for that stage. This is a nice touch to the game as players will then be able to know if they are lagging behind or how close they are to setting a new record.

Another small but appreciated addition to take note of would be the visual and sound effects of the game. While not quite eye candy, MotoHeroz provides decent graphics for a mobile game with cute and cartoonish details in the background while still preserving the masculinity of monster trucks. As far as sound is concerned, the distinctive whirring sound of monster trucks can be heard on all stages, fuel for adrenaline junkies.

Control wise, MotoHeroz is played with 4 simple buttons. Two of them control the acceleration and reversal of the vehicle, while the other two control the spin of the monster truck. Easy to understand and grasp, this game is definitely friendly towards first timers.

For $0.99, MotoHeroz is one app that is worth the purchase. Expect to spend many an hour slogging it out on the dirt tracks.
