User Rating:Skeeball, the summer beach boardwalk and carnival classic has come to the Iphone and Ipod Touch. I grew up loving this game at carnivals and amusement parks we would visit during summer vacations. I was excited to see this game but skeptical that the real thing could be replicated as a video game, especially on a handheld device.
I was pleasantly suprised that the Iphone version is this good. The bright 3D graphics are something I would expect on a gaming console. The play is simple. You use a flicking motion to launch the balls down the lane and into the cups, hopefully the higher scoring ones. 🙂 It has the same dexterity challenge as the real thing where it always seems easier to get 10 points than to hit the big one for 200.
There are fun features that recreate those little paper tickets and the silly prizes that are such a part of skeeball at an arcade. (screenshot #3) The prize selection changes from time to time and runs from cheesy plastic toys, to virtual laptops and even anoccasional free taco. It also has a built in record that keeps track of your loot. (screenshot #4)
If you like arcade games and this kind of old time nostalgia 10 Balls and 7 Cups is a great game. Quick, fun, mildly addictive and a great digital simulation of the "real" thing.
Quick Take
Value: High
Would I Buy Again: Yes
Learning Curve: Low. Uses a simple flicking motion to launch the ball down the lane
Who Is It For: Anyone who loves simple fun arcade games.
What I Like: The 3D graphics are stunning. The programmer has create a game with console quality graphics on a handheld. Awesome job.
What I Don’t: It’s hard to hit the 200. This is probably more a problem with this player than the game itself 🙂
Final Statement: A great game for reliving days gone by. Better still it’s only a buck.
