Although this app came out a long time ago, quite simply, if you don’t own this application, download it right now.  I can wait.

Have you done it by now?  Good.  On to the review.

As with virtually anything created by Apple, the Remote application for the iPod Touch and iPhone (available for free in the App Store) is a wonder of both design and function.  It is one of those apps that is mandatory and should come pre-installed on any iPhone or iPod Touch.

Imagine being able to control iTunes (either on Mac or PC) or your Apple TV from anywhere in your house (provided it is accessible by WiFi) with no additional hardware required.  If you have a large-screen monitor or television, you can sit on the other side of the room and pull up your iTunes Library with the press of your finger on the touchscreen.  It also works with finger swipes and gestures.

If you have multiple computers with iTunes installed, the app can differentiate between them (you can’t operate more than one at a time).  This is a very useful feature if you use both iTunes and Apple TV.

The app itself does not have a built-in interface other than the settings menu.  It simply transmits your iTunes library listing to the device and you choose which song you wish to hear or video you wish to watch.

I rarely call an application perfect, but this one is as close to perfection as an app will ever come.  Bless you Apple for developing such a useful program and providing it free of charge.

Pros: I can now watch or listen to my iTunes library without hitting the keyboard or mouse!

Cons: None that I can think of.

Read the Developer's Notes:
With Remote you can control the music on your computer or Apple TV from your iPod touch or iPhone.
Play, pause, skip, shuffle.  See your songs, playlists, and album art on your iPod touch or iPhone as if you were right in front of your computer.
Remote works with your Wi-Fi network, so you can control playback from anywhere in and around your home.
