I never wanted to own a pet.  I was always concerned that I’d forget about the pet and it would die of starvation, swearing eternal torment on me for the rest of my existence.  Then I figured I’d start out virtual so nothing would actually die, so I picked up iQuarium for myself.  If this works, I’ll eventually work up to virtual kittens and puppies.

The objective of iQuarium is, surprise, to take care of a fish.  Unlike other fish tank apps like Koi Pond the user is required to do some work.  By successfully taking care of the fish, the user earns bits to go in the aquarium such as backgrounds and coral and other nice add-ons.

The app is pretty plain vanilla.  I’d rather start off owning a full aquarium with multiple fish.  Actually, I’d rather not do any work whatsoever, but that’s just me.  Perhaps the creators should make a robot fish aquarium next.

The user can tap the screen and play with the fish.  The game is very slow-moving and tracks the hours that the fish has been alive (even if the game isn’t running).  The longer the fish lives, the more aquarium-related stuff the user earns.  There is a help menu (in a very small font) if you have any questions about caring for your virtual fish.

In the end, I’ll give this app a "thumbs in the middle".  It’s cute and the graphics are good but it drags and can be tedious.  Unless it’s a gift for your child to teach him or her how to take care of something, I’d give this a pass.

Quick Take

Value:Medium.

Would I Buy Again:I'm leaning towards "no".

Learning Curve:Low.

Who Is It For:Those who want a fish but can't actually take care of one.

What I Like:Excellent graphics and motion.

What I Don't Like:It can be tedious for those who need immediate satisfaction.

Final Statement:My virtual fish died. That ends that.

Read the Developer's Notes:
iQuarium is not a game - it's so much more than that! It is a virtual tank in your pocket with a very smart and thirsty for attention Parrot Cichlid fish living in it! Keep the fish happy by feeding it and playing with it and observe how your water pet companion reacts to your actions and how it grows healthy and strong! Remember - it depends entirely on you what kind of personality this fish will develop! And as it is a living creature without your attention and a proper treatment it might fall ill and even die.Oh, and don't forget that the fish tank needs your attention as well! As time passes by you will find new decorative items available in your inventory so you can arrange your aquarium space whatever way you like. What's more, rocks, plants and any other decorations providing hiding places for your fish will gain its appreciation and make it happy.iQuarium brings you a living and interactive water world you will be happy to take with you everywhere you go!
