User Rating:I never wanted to own a pet. I was always concerned that I’d forget about the pet and it would die of starvation, swearing eternal torment on me for the rest of my existence. Then I figured I’d start out virtual so nothing would actually die, so I picked up iQuarium for myself. If this works, I’ll eventually work up to virtual kittens and puppies.
The objective of iQuarium is, surprise, to take care of a fish. Unlike other fish tank apps like Koi Pond the user is required to do some work. By successfully taking care of the fish, the user earns bits to go in the aquarium such as backgrounds and coral and other nice add-ons.
The app is pretty plain vanilla. I’d rather start off owning a full aquarium with multiple fish. Actually, I’d rather not do any work whatsoever, but that’s just me. Perhaps the creators should make a robot fish aquarium next.
The user can tap the screen and play with the fish. The game is very slow-moving and tracks the hours that the fish has been alive (even if the game isn’t running). The longer the fish lives, the more aquarium-related stuff the user earns. There is a help menu (in a very small font) if you have any questions about caring for your virtual fish.
In the end, I’ll give this app a "thumbs in the middle". It’s cute and the graphics are good but it drags and can be tedious. Unless it’s a gift for your child to teach him or her how to take care of something, I’d give this a pass.
