I’m a huge Muppets fan. I’m convinced that Jim Henson is currently resting at the highest level of Heaven, sipping margaritas. So naturally when an official Muppets application was released by Disney Interactive for the iPhone and iPod touch, I was all over that like Gonzo over chickens. Even better, it starred one of my favorite Muppet characters.
It is a kid’s game, but it’s better than a lot of kid’s games I’ve seen and the kid playing it probably has to be smarter than the average kid (or perhaps the average has gone up since my childhood). The graphics are great. The sounds of Animal saying things like "rock and roll" and "bye bye" during the music are hilarious.
The game comes in multiple pieces and likely takes inspiration from the "Rock Band" genre of games. The first part is a simplistic tutorial and memory game. The second is to beat the drums for points along with the music that comes with the game. The third is to pick a song from your audio library and beat the drums along, although from what I can tell no points are involved, just fun.
Disney does great interactive games and this one is no exception. I have only one minor complaint that makes me take off half-a-star from a perfect score. The menu navigation is somewhat counter-intuitive and it’s difficult to navigate out of tutorial mode and to the area that let’s you select songs to drum to.
This game is $1.99 in the App Store and well worth the price.
