World of Goo is one of those games that has managed to capture the gaming world’s imagination thanks to a combination of engaging puzzle gameplay and a delightful cartoon aesthetic that seems to be all the rage these days. Suffice to say that the game’s release on Android has been long overdue.

In World of Goo, your objective in each level is to use the eponymous goo balls to build structures that guide them to the pipe constructed at the end of each level. Each level has a prerequisite for how many of the balls you need to guide to the pipe though, so you have to be frugal in using them to build the structures.

The gameplay is perfectly tailored for Android, as you do simple dragging gestures to build the constructions. As you progress, you’ll gain access to different types of goo balls, all of which have unique abilities that help you achieve your goal. The levels get increasingly challenging too, as you’ll encounter windmills, chasms and other obstacles that you have to carefully construct your goo balls around.

World of Goo is presented beautifully, with each level across the game’s several worlds having its own soundtrack and distinctive look. This is welcome to see, as such games are sometimes ruined by their lack of visual variety. In World of Goo, this is a non-issue.

Outside of player error, there is nothing to dislike or get frustrated by in this delightful game. Everything – from the gameplay to the graphics – works well together, and as soon as you start playing it you’ll see why it’s one of the most commended indie games of recent years. Everyone looking for a bit of a puzzler challenge should give this one a go.
