If you were watching the NFL playoffs yesterday then you most likely saw the premiere of the newest Apple iPad TV ad. The advert focuses on the iPad’s ability to create and inspire people to create amazing things. If you missed it then here is the ad:

If you played close attention to the words in the ad you might have noticed that it features a Robin Williams speech from the film Dead Poets Society, the wording goes as follows:

We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering — these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love — these are what we stay alive for.

To quote from Whitman,

“O me, O life of the questions of these recurring.
Of the endless trains of the faithless. Of cities filled with the foolish. What good amid these, O me, O life?
Answer: that you are here. That life exists and identity. That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.”

“That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.”

What will your verse be?

If you are interested in hearing more about the people in the ad and their stories then you can check out this new website that Apple created just for the ad. The site is called “Your Verse” and focuses on the stories behind the people who participated in the ad.
