The AroundMe app is a one-stop tool for finding businesses and services from a wide array of categories. It uses the onboard GPS unit in an iPhone to automatically read the location of the app user and then creates a customized list of results based on that data. Search categories include banks, bars, coffee shops, gas stations, hospitals, hotels, movie theaters, restaurants, grocery stores, theaters, and taxi services in the area, and there is also the option for saving favorites as well.

Each listing can be viewed on a map which shows the route from the current location, and the built-in communication options allow for listings to be sent to a contact via email. You can even use the Wikipedia button on each listing to find out more.

There are many travel apps, but AroundMe funnels a great deal of information into a single portal which streamlines the entire search process.

This app is compatible with iPod Touch and iPhone devices, but these must have an onboard compass to allow the app to function automatically. There is no cost for AroundMe and it functions in several different languages.
