Touch, aim and shoot!  With Vegas Pool Sharks Lite, I am assured a quality pool game that compliments my real-life pool skills.  The Lite version of Vegas Pool Sharks, though consisting of a three-ball game (shoot three balls in to win, lest your opponent does it first), gives you a savory taste of what the full version is like.

I have to admit I am a decent pool player, and have made a couple of college kids angry during my life because of my prowess.  Believe it or not, I am not kidding this time. So I was pleasantly surprised when I downloaded and installed VPSL to find a very true rendition of how the mechanics of the game work.  Needless to say, I am quite as good at pool on the iPhone as I am in real life.  This is due to VSPL’s easy and responsive controls that allow you to pull on the cue stick to shoot, aim where you want, and even add spin to the ball for added effects.

In the Lite version, every time I shot three balls in a socket, I received a virtual $100 prize (if only that money were real).  If my opponent, a blonde woman who smiles when she wins and doesn’t when she loses, manages to get three balls in before I can, she gets the $100 instead.  In the full version, you have the option of playing a real 8-ball game, and even practice your shooting in Practice mode.  I also hope you are given the option of changing your opponent, because that lady is creepy!

Controls are sometimes a little jerky, but respond accurately 99 percent of the time. The graphics themselves look very similar to those you would expect to see on a Nintendo DS, so they aren’t the sharpest.  When it comes down to the physics aspect of the game, it doesn’t do a very good job of that, either, as the cue ball sometimes hits another with an unrealistic amount of force.  With a few tweaks and changes in the game’s graphics and overall physics, Vegas Pool Sharks Lite might just end up becoming a worthy rival to my pool table.

Quick Take:
Value: Medium
Would I Buy Again: Only if it had better graphics.
Learning Curve: Low-Medium
Who is it for:
People who are always up for a little Vegas fun.
What I like: The quick play and the difficulty level.
What I Don’t: Controls that are not always reliable, strange physics, and blunt graphics.
Final Statement: Vegas Pool Sharks Lite is very addicting, once you get past the graphics, and is a worthy app to have on your iPhone.
