The NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor which will soon be available on the ASUS Transformer Prime as well as a few other tablets in the future has a quad-core processor. In fact, the Tegra 3 was the first quad-core processor in the market. With the specification already being better than the one present in the iPhone and the iPad, Apple will face stiff competition from these new breed of devices.

A report by 9 to 5 Mac stated that there are already code references in the new iOS 5.0.1 beta which indicates the usage of both the current dual-core processor available on these two devices as well as a quad-core processing which may indicate the capability of future devices.

Apple’s batch of processors comes in sequence of numbers with the current one being the A5 processor. The future will be called A6 and it is expected to be far better than the current processor. Quad-core processing is definitely a must and with that, one can only imagine the power that can be tapped from this processor. We’ve already seen what the current one can do and we can only fathom what the future holds for the future iOS devices. Either way, Apple fanboys will soon have a thing to talk about.
