An interesting piece over on ars technica suggests that there are tons of new iPod Touch users thanks to the holiday season.
The post notes that the Touch earned top spots in Amazon’s sales ranking.
And the proof goes on. App sales spiked Christmas day, suggesting that many had just unwrapped a shiny new Touch and were going to town downloading everything in sight. (Remember those days veteran users??)
So yes, all indications are that a lot of folks are getting started with new devices. So what are we doing about it? A Lot!
First off, beginning January 1 we’ll have a new feature just for those new to the iPod Touch.
Our newest writer — Jennifer — has been using an iPod Touch for a few months. She loves it. Thus far, however, she has had the help of her significant other, Wayne Schulz of Gear Diary. Wayne has set up her device, advised her on which applications to use, and generally has been Jennifer’s IT person for everything iPod Touch-related.
That’s all going to change on New Year’s Eve when Jennifer formats her Touch and starts over… alone.
She’ll have to figure out which applications to use and how best to use them, without Waynes help. When Jennifer does have a question she”ll have one of two options — search the Internet or… you.
Jennifer will have her own forum area in which to share any questions she might have. We hope that you will be kind enough to offer advice whenever she might need it. In addition, as a busy professional, and the mother of two, she will be sharing a variety of tips and tricks that she discovers. If she finds application that’s particularly useful to her in her role as "mom", she will share it with us. If there’s a game or educational application of a particular use to one of her kids, she’ll be writing about it. All along the way, at each step of the learning curve, she’ll share her questions, concerns, and victories with us. We’re looking forward to her getting started! Welcome aboard Jennifer!
