New In The App Store – Eye-Fi

Here’s an app I’ve been anxiously awaiting…

I thought the Eye-Fi card that lets you wirelessly upload your pictures from its wifi enabled SD card in any camera to your computer and/or online service like Picassa was silly until I actually tried it last year. Once I did I was a believer.

The convenience of the little utility is amazing. I take a picture and within seconds it is on my computer, in my Evernote account and on Picassa. I love it and wouldn’t go without an Eye-Fi card in my camera.

Now along comes the Eye-Fi app that was announced a few months ago. It does for the iPhone what the Eye-Fi card does for a stand alone camera.

You can either start the Eye-Fi app and choose where to upload a picture that is already in your photo library or take a new picture from within the app itself then send it to your favorite online service.

It is quick, simple and brings pictures taken with my Casio camera and iPhone together seemlessly.

Here are pictures of my nephew Joey playing with my iPhone during a recent visit. Within seconds I uploaded one to my Picassa account and then sent it to my sister. Awesome! (and man did Joey figure out how to use my iPhone quickly- seems gadget-lust runs in the family!)

Best of all, the app is free! For a copy go HERE. For more information on Eye-Fi and its products check out their website HERE.

Edit: Reader Paul points out that this app requires having an Eye-Fi card to first open an account. That makes sense from the perspective of a business plan but is a bummer for many who might otherwise make use of the service. That noted, I would also add that the original card is steeply discounted since new cards that also upload video from cameras are on the way. They are definitely worth a look.
