The first question is, does this work? The answer to that is, YES! If you have trouble reading the green and you need a little assistance in reading the breaks on a green, then this will do that for you. Really the concept to this is not that hard.

Is it legal to use on the course, of course not! Perhaps you can get away with it on your outings but expect everyone to bat an eye when you pull this out and place it on the green.

For practicing purposes, this is an essential tool. I would consider it a worthy purchase; however, I personally have not used it for actual play. It just doesn’t make any practical sense if you relied on this.

Let’s put it this way, if you are an avid golfer using any of the 3rd party rangefinder/scorecard, you won’t be exiting out of the application to launch this application just so you can putt better. As I have stated before and as I review all these different golf applications, if it hinders your enjoyment in golf because you’re constantly tinkering with your iPhone, then you have issues.

On the other hand, if you use it as a tool to practice and help you identify breaks (off course), then it’s golden.

Overall, the design is wonderfully done. It’s easy to read and has a low learning curve to use so I give this two thumbs up.

Quick Take:
Value: Medium
Would I Buy Again: Yes
Learning Curve: Easy
Who is it for: Golfers
What I like: It definitely works and helps you read your greens.
What I Don’t: Nothing

Final Statement: If you are having a hard time reading your greens, then I suggest dropping a few dollars for this and practice away! Your putts can only get better with it.

Read the Developer's Notes:
BreakMeter is a tool for golfers to aid them in“reading the break” on a green (i.e., seeing the direction the slope of the green causes the ball to turn). Golf greens are often deceiving to the eye; what looks like a break in one direction is often straight or in the opposite direction! The BreakMeter uses the iPhone/iPod Touch accelerometer to measure the angle of the slope in two different directions, then graphically displays the slope to the player.

Using BreakMeter during practice, you can train yourself to correctly recognize subtle breaks on the green. Putting makes up one-third or more of the total number of strokes in a round of golf. Improving the ability to read the break is the best way to shave strokes off your scores!
