User Rating:I am currently working with the Junior class decorating for the prom. I decided to test out this crazy little app tonight to see if I could fool teenagers into thinking I had to take a call. The fake calls actually worked. I played along with them and the kids either walked away to give me some privacy, or I could just take off without a second thought.
The application actually does what it advertises. You can get a fake phone call by setting a time, setting a timer (default is 60 seconds), or you can fake it right now. I tried setting the timer and a set time and both worked correctly. There are a ton of options you can set up before using the app to make it as believable as you would like.
The home screen of the app is where you set all of your times and method of calling. You can also set the voice. You have the choice of Boss, Female, Male, and 4 custom recordings. I actually couldn’t use the boss because it is kind of comical and I kept wanting to laugh. There is also a timer quick set for 3, 5, or 10 minutes.
The more settings button allows you to further customize your fake phone call. You can put in a caller ID number or name. There is even an option to enter the caller subheading (mobile, home, etc.). If you like, the caller can be set to any of your contacts. The answer mode is also customizable with either a swipe or button and the background can be changed a variety of ways. Basically, however you decide to customize your fake call, it looks just like any regular call does on the iPhone. There is a large number of ringtones available which you also set from this screen. As I said above, the application works. I do not have a habit of taking fake phone calls to get away from people, but if I wanted to, this application would do exactly that. The only thing I did not like about fake-a-call was the speed of the app. It seemed very sluggish and unresponsive at times. This app is actually pretty fun and something I might try using sometime.
Quick Take:
Value: At $.99 the value is high.
Would I buy again? As long as it stayed at the current price I would.
Learning Curve: Low
Who is it for? People who get so annoyed they need to be rescued from someone.
What I like? Many options to customize yet it will always look like a real iPhone call coming in.
What I don’t: The app is a little sluggish.
Final Statement: Even if you do not feel you would need to trick anyone with a fake phone call, this app is very entertaining to try on your friends. It is amazing that it actually works everytime.
