I love a simple idea well executed! This app turns the whole face of your iPhone into a button allowing you to take a picture by hitting it anywhere. This may seem like a small difference from the native app with its smallish button and it is, but in some situations it is a vital one. Say your 5 year old is doing his first handstand and he is only going to hold it a very short time. You open the camera app on your iphone and hunt around for that tiny camera button, in the process losing the shot of that first time. Or you have decided that you need to update your tired old photo of yourself on Facebook. You put on a goofy hat and try to find that button on the backside of your iPhone and just generally get frustrated. Or even you finally get out of the house to see your favorite band and can only snap a photo by holding your precious iPhone way above your head and trying to look at the screen while avoiding overly enthusiastic dancers. This app makes these situations easy.

The only problem with Fast Tap Camera is that it takes longer to save the picture to the camera roll than the original camera app. I’m guessing this is something that can’t be avoided, but the writer of this app must have been reading the reviews on itunes because very quickly after it was released there was an update with a very creative solution. Instead of saving each photo to the camera roll right after it is taken you can now choose to take three pictures before you save them in what is called 3X mode. This way the reaction time between pictures is about the same as the native app. After three pictures are taken, of course, you have to wait a loooong time to take the next picture. From my limited experience three in quick succession was enough.  I like creative solutions, and more than that, I love a quick response to user feedback. Speaking of which — I might like a link to the camera roll to view my pictures once I have taken them.

Overall I really liked this app. It adds convenience to an app I already use all the time. When my son does his second handstand, I will find the easy-to-see red icon on my screen and get at least three good shots!

Quick Take

Value: High
Would I Buy Again: Yup
Learning Curve: non-existant, well… low for the 3X mode
Who Is It For: people who use their iPhone camera
What I Like: Simple expansion of an app I use all the time
What I Don’t: long-ish wait for pictures to upload

Final Statement:
Love the app, can’t wait to see the next update!

My Rating: 4.5/5
