The goal of Fish Food Frenzy Free is to eat as many smaller fish as possible without getting eaten by any bigger fish yourself.  As if that wasn’t hard enough, you also need to watch out for squid and sharks.  If a squid touches you, you’re “stunned” and can’t move well. If a shark touches you, well, he eats you.

To control your fish, you can either use the accelerometer or the virtual joystick. I thought that the accelerometer was too awkward to use, especially when you need to swim in between the fish.  The joystick functioned very nicely and I was able to zoom around—eating many fish and avoiding the big guys.

Once you eat enough fish (the red bar at the top goes all the way across), your fish “levels up” and you can now eat slightly larger fish. Eating enough fish, again gets you even bigger. This continues until a shark  or another larger fish eats you. With each new life you start as the smaller fish and have to eat your way up the food chain again. Along the way, there are also several different power-ups; ones that add a life, make you invincible, freeze all the fish on the screen, etc.

Once I switched from the accelerometer to the joystick, controlling the game was fine. The problem is it just gets boring, and it’s too difficult. I realize this sounds contradictory—if the game is too difficult, it could have many faults, but boring isn’t one of them. I found it difficult, so I was dying often and seldom leveled up to the next level. The replay on the game is low, so low in fact that if it weren’t for reviewing the game, I would have played it even less!

Quick Take

Value:Low-- the game was boring; at least I didn't spend any money on it!

Would I Buy Again:Nope...even at free I thought it was over priced

Learning Curve:Very little--it's a straight forward game

Who Is It For:Causual gamers

What I Like:The joystick controls worked well

What I Don't Like:The game was boring and bit too difficult. It'd be nice if you kept your current "level" (fish size) after your fish dies.

Final Statement:I'd avoid this game..it's a cute premise but not a fun game at all

Read the Developer's Notes:
You are Sammy, a little fish in a big pond full of fish much bigger than you. Your goal is to eat as many fish the same size and smaller than you. The more fish you eat the bigger you'll grow!
Watch out for certain dangers in the water. Jellyfish will sting you and when they do you Sammy gets confused and he’s hard to control. Sharks are quiet, fast hunters. They can sneak up on their prey and will eat you up no matter what size you are!
To control Sammy, tilt the iPhone in the direction you want him to go. If you'd like it to move faster you can increase the sensitivity in the options page of the game. The higher the sensitivity the faster the Sammy will move.
Bonus items float by all the time. Try and eat special bubbles to get cool power ups.
Tip: The more floating sand dollars you eat the better!
