It’s interesting how the app Game Your Video has chosen to market itself. It basically turns editing video into a bit of a “video game”. There isn’t any scoring but the app makes it very easy to add special effects to any video on your iPhone.
The app allows you to use live video or any movie in your video library. Immediately you can then either slow it down or speed it up in forward or reverse. You can also join clips together or cut clips to make a new video. But that’s not the main functionality of the app.
When you hit the “Game Your Video” button (intentionally shaped like a video game controller), you can apply various themes (called Flavors in the app) to your video like Black and White or Haunted or Chaplin. You can also apply special effects like echo, mirror, spin and many others to make it freaky psychedelic.
You can set a music background on your video either from one of the pre-loaded tunes or anything from your Music Library. Sound effects can also be altered in the video and everyone can sound like a chipmunk.
There is a lot of functionality in this app, some of which I think should be incorporated into more mainstream video-editing software. It would take too long to mention all its capabilities, but it’s that range that lends to one of the app’s flaws which is that it can be somewhat onerous to learn and use. However, once learned, a lot can be done with it. Also, it would be nice to be able to do more than one video alteration at a time on a clip, such as being able to both Spin and Pixelate.
Any finished videos can be uploaded to Facebook or YouTube (almost a requirement nowadays). Game Your Video also allows you to view videos made from other people with the app (usually hosted on YouTube). While the app isn’t perfect, it’s on the right path for a fun video editing experience. Personally, I’d love to see it on the iPad.
