Anyone who is involved in scientific research of any kind is going to have many different documents to which they will frequently find themselves referring. This can mean toting around a bulging briefcase full or printed research studies, test results, newspaper clippings, journals and more.

It could also mean hefting a laptop computer to meetings and conferences should a single paragraph from some sort of article be required. With the Papers app, however, a user can carry all of their papers and articles around in their pocket. The Papers app uses a built-in PDF reader that makes it easy to open and read documents of even the highest quality. These can have notations and highlights added to them to help make them more useable too.

The app allows the user to organize their papers in a number of ways, and to find the materials they need through such things as author, subject, publication or even custom categories. The app also includes eight different search engines that deliver access to all sorts of articles in relevant publications. For example, Google Scholar, Web of Science and NASA-ADS are all included. Any relevant or valuable articles can then be instantly added to the collection on the device.

These can also be easily shared via email too. Syncing operations are also available to those using Mac computers, and the entire library can backed up online for free regardless of the user’s platform too.

The Papers app is a unique entity, and is currently compatible only with iPod Touch and iPhone devices.

The cost of the app is $9.99, and it requires an active Internet connection for the search engines and browsers to function.
