Dimitri raved about Mocha VNC the other day. What he didn’t tell you was that the rave review here on WhatsOniPhone was nothing compared to his raving about the app late Saturday night. Unfortunately, the actual exchange isn’t appropriate for this site, but suffice it to say- we were both blown away by the app.

You see, comparisons to other remote log-in programs don’t do Mocha VNC justice. The clarity of the Mac’s remote image on the iPhone or iPod Touch is nothing short of stunning and the speed and degree of control over the desktop from the handheld is like nothing I have ever seen. Mocha VNC Lite really does bring the computing power and experience of a full Mac (or PC) to the handheld.

And that was just the Lite version.

Last night the full version went live on the App Store for $5.99. I bought it and have been using it a bit today.

So the question is… does the full version add enough functionality over the Lite version to justify spending $5.99 instead of $0.
The answer is… it depends.

I won’t go through the same information Dimitri covers in his review of the free version since all of that remains the same. What the full version adds is
-additional keyboards that include Function keys,
-support for Macros (which could be a huge bonus if you take them time to set them up)
-Right mouse-click functionality (in addition to the left click that comes with the free version)

So…
If you want to set up and use macros the pro version is worth the price.
If you need the functionality of the right mouse-click the pro version is worth the price.

If not, the free version should be just fine for you.

I don’t need that added functionality so I’ll just assume that I paid my $5.99 for the free version which, although it is free, is definitely worth my $5.99

Quick Take:

Value: Good if you need the added functionality
Would I Buy Again: I don’t really need the added functionality so… no
Learning Curve: Once it is set up very little
Who Is It For: Anybody who want to access their desktop remotely

Final Statement: I would definitely recommend downloading Mocha VNC Lite. I would only recommend purchasing Mocha VNC if you need the functionality it adds.
