User Rating:The Scene It? game franchise has been ported to just about every electronic device on the market. Now it’s finally on the iPhone and while most games get watered down to fit on the device, this Big Screen trivia game is actually just as good on the extremely small screen.
The game has two modes: a single player game and a multiplayer mode called "Movie Pass." The single mode is a simple question and answer game that lets you rack up points to improve your own score or a global roster to earn Glitz for your Sceneit.com avatar’s "career path."
Even though the game has been scaled down, it’s still just as fun as the original. Questions range from straight forward multiple-choice quizzes to special questions such as "Pixel Flix" in which players have to identify a movie based on an 8-bit animation, "Child’s Play" in which players have to guess a movie based on a kids’ drawing and quizzes based on actual movie clips. The questions are mostly about movies from the last 10 years and this tired old movie buff would have liked to see more classic films, but the mix of genres is enough to present a decent challenge.
The multiplayer round is scaled down from the single, but can still be just as fun. "Movie Pass" is basically a "Hot Potato" style game with movie trivia questions. Players answer questions and can only pass the iPhone when the answer a question right. Whoever is holding the phone when the buzzer rings is out. Even if you’re risking cracking your phone by tossing it from person to person, it’s still quite fun.
It’s an impressive start to an already impressive, successful game franchise. It’s definitely worth a second screening.
Quick Take
Value:You get a lot of flick for just over a buck, which is more than I can say for the actual movies
Would I Buy Again:Definitely worth going for the second feature
Learning Curve:So simple, a first-year film school student could play it
Who Is It For:Movie buffs, trivia hounds and people who have seen the "Twilight" movies and didn't fall asleep
What I Like:Doesn't skimp on what makes it great because it's a smaller version
What I Don't Like:The movies are too modern, would have liked to see questions about films before the 1980's
Final Statement:Run, don't walk, to the App Store for this movie trivia bonanza
