Unique puzzle games seem to be all the rage on the iPhone, and Stay is no exception. In many ways, Stay is similar to Topple—at the core of both games are a variety of blocks and balance/physics required to accomplish a goal.
The goal in Stay is to see how long you can keep a red shape balanced on a see-saw. Wherever you tap on the screen a block will appear (and fall) onto your see-saw. Unlike Tetris, Topple, and other block games, instead of the blocks varying by size; in Stay they vary in weight or how they react. For example the block with the skull-and-crossbones on it explodes blowing off other blocks and causing your see-saw to suddenly move one way or the other. (This then causes you to frantically add block to the other side in an effort to keep the red shape balanced.) The block with the with the ‘S’ shrinks all the surrounding blocks; a block with an ‘H’ is extra heavy.
Survival mode is similar to the ‘regular’ game except instead of balancing a red shape, every time your see-saw tips off screen the ‘timer’ on top decreases until the see-saw is fully back on the screen. Once the timer runs out, your game is over.
The mix of types of blocks and physics makes Stay a challenging, difficult, and fun game.
Quick Take
Value:Medium--it's definately a fun game, but there are a glut of good puzzle games out there now.
Would I Buy Again:Probably--this has a unique blend of balancing that makes the game 'fresh'
Learning Curve:Very little--it's a straight forward game
Who Is It For:Puzzlers and people looking for a new twist on block puzzle games
What I Like:I like the see-saw idea, it's fun. I'm horrible at the game but still had fun playing it.
What I Don't Like:The music isn't that good. (I guess that's what volume control is for :) )
Final Statement:Stay is a fun and unique puzzle game. If you are a fan of puzzles, check this one out.
Stay features three difficulty levels and an alternate gameplay mode called survival. In survival mode there's no red object, only the seesaw; whenever the seesaw dips below the screen, it drains away some life from your life meter. When your meter is empty, your game is over.
Your best times are kept on your device, so you can show off to your friends. But you'd better get ready to face the rest of civilization, because online world leaderboards are coming soon.
