User Rating:My preferred dress? Jeans, an oxford shirt and my black ropers.
Unfortunately, I have to wear a tie to work most days. I hate it.
I don’t remember my father teaching me to tie a tie but somewhere along the way he did. After years and years of practice I can now tie the one type of knot he taught me with my eyes closed. Seriously, eyes closed, first time, every time.
Simple… quick… boring…
So maybe it’s time to try a new knot. That’s where Tie-a-Tie can be useful.
The free version offers one knot while the deluxe version offers four- Windsor, Half-Windsor, Four-in-Hand and Small knot- with three more on the way. (I know, I know… isn’t it exciting???)
Seriously, this is actually a pretty good resource for tying a tie. It offers quick description of each knot and a suggestion for what type of tie it goes. (Who would have guessed that a Windsor is named after the Duke of Windsor and goes best with wider-spaced colors and thinner fabrics??)
It also offers step by step diagrams and real life photos for tying each knot.
It is a simple resource but one that might just be worth it if you can’t seem to get that perfect knot or want to try something new.
Quick Take
Value: Free version- Great; Deluxe Version- Expensive for what it is.
Would I Buy Again: After looking at the deluxe version I’m just fine with my old standard so… no.
Learning Curve: None
Who is it for: Someone who wants to try new knots and needs help.
What I like: Simple step by step diagrams.
What I Don’t: Expensive for what the deluxe version offers. In a tie-tying app one would think the Half-Windsor knot would be spelled correctly. It isn’t.
Final Statement:
If ties aren’t your thing this isn’t the app for you.
If ties are your thing but actually tying them isn’t this app is definitely for you.
If you only need one knot go for the free version.
