The Wars is a “strategy” game.  I use the term loosely because while there is a bit of strategy on how you develop your “castle”, when I think strategy I think something much more complicated and, well, strategic.  But before we get into if The Wars is a strategy game or not, let me give you some background on how the game is played.

In The Wars, your “castle” is on the left side of the screen and your opponent is on the right.  The goal is to try conquer the opponent.  As the game continues, you earn money – mostly for killing people, but I think there’s some sort of standard “cash flow” as well.  With your money you can do one of 3 things: Send in more people to attack, build your building (so you can have more positions to add defenses), or add a defense (laser gun, cannon, sniper, etc)  In an interesting twist, as the game progresses you can also progress through “5” stages of development: cave man, pioneer; some sort of “army” guys (I’m guessing that’s “modern” man), space men, and another level I have yet to reach. Each level has its own set of people, attacks, and defenses.

With out any documentation, I’m not really sure what the differences are between all the people.  While it’s obvious that a caveman throwing a rock is no match for a tank; I’m not sure what the difference is between a caveman throwing a rock and a caveman on an elephant.  (Does the elephant have more defense but less “range of attack”? Does the rock do more damage or maybe more damage from further away? I don’t know!)

Quick Take

Value: Medium

Would I Buy Again:  Not sure

Learning Curve:It took several turns before I realised how to paly the game.  If there was some sort of training or documentation that’d help a lot

Who Is It For: Casual gamers

What I Like:  Interesting idea and fun powerups

What I Don’t:: Game play is slow and a little confusing at times

Final Statement: This isn’t a bad game, but it would need several improvements to really make it shine.

Read the Developer's Notes:
Progress through the ages of time, beginning from the stone age all the way to the nuclear age in“The Wars”. The idea of the game is simple - destroy your enemy base. Think strategically and tactically decide the balance between both attack and defense to succeed. Remember that you cannot repair your base during battle.
As you progress and kill all the enemies you will collect experience points, spend these to move onto the next of 5 available ages. Each age has its own unique units, defense levels and special weapons for when it gets heated!

Try the medium and hard levels for more of a challenge to become a War master!
