User Rating:Hot Browser has at least a couple of things in common with Edge Browser, another third-party mobile Web browser for the iPhone. In both apps, landscape mode is possible; following a link that supposedly opens in a new tab or window is not. Moreover, saving images on a page to your photo roll is not supported.
Unlike Edge Browser, however, Hot Browser is generous enough to include an always-present address bar in its interface, but not too generous to provide navigation buttons. You enter a URL in the bar, tap Go beside it, and you see the Web page below it. Done! Wait, where’s the ‘hot’ in that? Apparently, if I give my iPhone a shake "a random yet currently very popular" Web site will be opened. Cool. I mean, hot. Oh never mind.
Well, after trying the shake-for-popular-site trick, I’ve come to the conclusion that I have perhaps begun to lose my touch. If the app indeed delivers a Web site that’s currently making waves in Digg or being favorited in Technorati, I might have just become a little behind the times. Can somebody please tell me what makes www.schmatz-it.com and www.tztz.org quite popular these days?
Quick Take
Value: Low
Would I Buy Again: Thankfully it’s free.
Learning Curve: Zero
Who Is It For: People who want a browser app that, for now, cleverly takes them to "random" (yet curiously connected to the app’s developer) Web sites every time they shake their iPhones.
What I Like: Presence of an address bar
What I Don’t: Browser has no navigation buttons, and whatever’s supposed to make the shake trick work properly seems to be busted at the moment.
Final Statement: Minus the shake trick, Hot Browser is just Edge Browser with an address bar.
