File Magic Giveaway

By

On March 27, 2009

I reviewed File Magic a bit back and was rather impressed with it. Sure you need to run separate software on your computer in order to use the app, but setup is simple and using the appliation to move files from your Mac or PC to your iPhone or iPod Touch could not be simpler.

It works beautifully for many document, image and media files, most of which can then be accessed directly from within the app. Add to that a neat feature that lets you write emails on a laptop but send them from your iPone when there is no WiFi present and you have an app that is a whole lot more than just about file transfer and storage.

Well, the good folks at SplashData have given us three copies to give away. For a chance to win one describe one scenario in which File Magic might come in handy for you.

WWDC June 8-12

By

On March 26, 2009

When WWDC was announced last year the buzz was amazing. People went crazy with the rumor that a new iPhone would be announced. Some insisted that since WWDC is a developer’s conference there was no way this would happen while others pointed out that there was at least on occasion when hardware had been announced. Well we all know how the stories ended- the iPhone 3G was announced and the rest is history.

Between last year and some loose-lipped ATT execs there seems little doubt that the next version of the iPhone and/or iPhone and/or iPhone and Tablet will be announced at WWDC this year. Yes, June 8-12 is likely to be an exciting time.

and it is just…

SQLCipher: Transparent SQLite Encryption For iPhone Apps

By

On

Need to store sensitive information in your app? SQLCipher extends SQLite enabling transparent encryption and decryption of data using AES. Its source is available on Github. SQLite is pluggable. Developers can create extensions and chain them into SQLite’s engine. Using this mechanism, SQLCipher embeds itself low enough in the stack to be transparent. As a […]

Dexim AV Dock Station – Review

By

On

Sure, Apple has a dock like this, but Apple just prices their accessories too high.  Enter Dexim’s AV Dock.  It comes with Remote, Cables (Video / Audio), Dock, Batteries, and the variety of adapters you would need to fit all of the different iPods / iTouch / iPhones out in the market.

The Dexim AV Dock doesn’t provide you with a component video cable, instead it provides the standard RCA type yellow, red, white plug.  The quality of the output is decent, no worse than the one that you would get from the Apple solution.  Watching YouTube and native iPhone videos and photos on my TV worked flawlessly.

Even though the remote is infrared, our test unit had no problem picking up a signal from 20 feet away (as long as we pointed it at the dock of course).  The remote is very good in that it lets you navigate through menu choices, select songs and videos, control volume, play/pause, and even includes more than one set of batteries.

In general, if you are looking for a video/audio dock that is full functional with remote, and something that isn’t going to break the bank, Dexim has produced the right product at the right price.

The Dexim AV Dock Station with Remote Control can be had for $70 at www.richardsolo.com.
