App Update – Air Mouse

By

On February 5, 2009

I love Air Mouse and especially love the fact that it keeps getting better and better.

While the "air mouse" functionality is kinda neat and works well, the app is great as a remote mouse and keyboard on its own even without the air functionality. The combination of it all is pretty amazing!

The version I looked at recently added words to the computer as you typed them on the iPhone. It worked well enough but is even better in version 1.5.1.

A small but important update now allows you to type out an entire sentence or paragraph on your iPhone before sending them to the computer to which the app is connected. It makes using your handheld as a keyboard even better than before. Fact is since my wrist surgery last month I find typing this way to be quite useful.

You can get Air Mouse HERE in the App Store for $5.99.

Review – Audioengine A5 Speakers

By

On

As some of you might already know I am an audiophile.  Over the years I’ve heard my share of both really bad stereo speakers and really high-end studio quality speakers.  I use varying setups throughout the house based upon which type of speaker works best for the job it’s meant to do.  For example, the surround sound system connected to my hidef tv consists of Polk Audio center channel, with a combination of Mirage front and back speakers, and a Nakamichi sub. That combination works best for the type of surround sound amp I’m using and the room in which I watch movies.

Even though those components are all high quality, I have a completely different set up for my music.  Why?  Because music is recorded differently than a movie track.  It requires the ability to hear separate instruments without blending all of the sound together, and in my case, I love to hear each individual instrument clearly and as close to the original recording as possible.  I choose the components in my stereo system not only because it reproduced sound well, but because the combination of components I choose doesn’t require a minimum wattage level to hear all the details in the music at low levels (my music system is in the living room, and I cant blast it too loud there).  It lets me ‘feel’ the sound even at low volumes.

I’m an audiophile.

Last week, Audioengine sent us their Audioengine A5 bookshelf speakers.  What did I think?

Now Playing, Netflix – Simply Amazing!

By

On February 4, 2009

Oh, I remember the days of watching movies in the theatres! Having to drive by the movie theatre to see what was playing, either posted outside of the building or having to run inside to see the times and schedules. Wow, so many things have changed, hasn’t it?

If you are reading this, I will assume that you have an iPhone and you are yearning for what application you want to install next. Well, I can’t say that this will be the next application but I can tell you  one thing, “Now Playing” has definitely stepped it up a notch to rival the rest of the current movie applications out there (Flixter, Showtimes, etc.)

iVoice R1 Carkit – Review

By

I recently had the opportunity to review the iVoice’s Baby-ai bluetooth headset. I had not heard of the company previously but was certainly glad to have had the opportunity to see their products in action! I was quite impressed with the diminutive headset. I was taken by its small size and high quality audio. Incorporating the latest technology, it was one Bluetooth headset that actually lived up to its hype. At the same time, I had the opportunity to review their R1 car kit, as well. I was similarly impressed, which isn’t a surprise since it incorporates much of the same technology.

Let’s take a look–

Review of Manning's "iPhone in Action" Book

By

On February 3, 2009

iPhone in Action, by Christopher Allen and Shannon Appelcline, bills itself as an “introduction to Web and SDK development” for the iPhone. In print form it costs $39.99 direct from Manning (with free e-book) and in e-book only form it’s $24.99. If you’d rather brave Amazon.com, the print copy costs $26.39 at time of writing. […]

Google Tasks On iPhone

By

On

I received an email that requires me taking a specific action later today. Normally I would forward it to my Toodledo account so that I can later access it with ToDo, Toodledo or Ultimate ToDos, all of which sync with Toodledo.  Instead, I highlighted the text I needed and selected "Add To Tasks" from the Google dropdown menu.

That got me thinking, "What apps make use of the tasks functionality in Google?" Smarttime from LeftCoastLogic does but I’ve never become comfortable with its interface. A quick Google search revealed another option.

There’s An App For That… And I Use…

By

Apple’s latest commercial is nothing short of brilliant. If you haven’t caught it take a look.

Why is it brilliant? Because it takes the normal way of looking at an app and turns it on its head. Instead of looking at an app and discovering what the app can do, the commercial suggests we think about WHAT we need to accomplish and then find the right app for doing it. It is a simple idea but a powerful one in that it views the iPhone as an invaluable tool for accomplishing life’s little tasks. But there is a problem.
